Introduction

The Vertebrate is the model that our group does and we chose this as we felt that the twist of the model looks unique and the curves of the structure look interesting. Through doing the Vertebrate, we realize that buildings or structure can be shaped differently and not just boxes or cubes. With the 3D modeling, it is possible to shape in any structure that one wants and with modern machinery, this unique structure can be built or constructed easily.
Through this workshop, we understand how things are being constructed and how 3D software such as Rhino could make the actual structure look as perfectly as the 3D model and also exports the 3D models easily to AutoCAD. We also got the chance to experience model making using the STL machine. Although the process of the STL is long, the end product stills looks as accurate as the 3D model. We also learnt the importance of saving materials by nesting the objects for laser cutting. Choices of material is also important to us in the production of the model as we need thin materials to bend out the curve structure and a thicker material for the arch to make the structure to be more stable.
